DIVERSIFICATION OF WATER SOURCES

We are building for the future to make sure our infrastructure is built in a manner that is respectful to the environment and can maximize time in service. I'm proud that Vallecitos is the only local district that has partnered with the Carlsbad Desalination Plant, sourcing 25% of our water from this state-of-the-art facility. This strategic partnership plays a crucial role in drought-proofing our community, ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply even in times of severe drought. By diversifying our water sources, we enhance our district's resilience and provide our residents with greater security against future water shortages.

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

Even with the unusually wet winters of 2023 and 2024, the Colorado River, our primary water source, remains in a severe drought. Lake Mead, crucial for our water supply, is currently less than 35% full. San Diego County, however, is uniquely prepared to handle these water shortages thanks to robust conservation efforts, innovative recycling programs, and the strategic use of local water sources. This advantageous position is a result of our community's commitment to sustainable water practices. Despite these efforts, we must continue to manage our water resources carefully to ensure their long-term availability and reliability.
